Over the past 60 years or so, the study of ergonomics has grown immensely.  We continue to learn more about the way our environment—and the tools we design to use within these environments—have an effect on overall efficiency.  Most commonly we think of ergonomics in the workplace, but there may be other ways we can incorporate this 123inkcartridges.ca mentality in our ever day lives.

For now, though, lets take a look at a few tips for maintaining an ergonomic workplace.  Perhaps this could give you some ideas about ways to live a more ergonomic life every day.

ERGONOMIC OFFICE TIPS

  • Support your arms: your arms should be parallel to the ground will appropriate support beneath them so that you are not putting undue stress on the muscles of your neck and shoulders while you type
  • Try to keep your head balanced directly above its base of support (which would be the neck, spine). Basically, you don’t want to crane your head forward
  • And if you are craning your head forward, it probably also means that you are slouching. You should avoid slouching as it puts added pressure on your vertebrae. Instead, adjust the height of your chair or your screen; adjust the lumbar support of your chair and sit within reaching distance of everything you need (keyboard, mouse, water bottle, pen, phone, etc).
  • Never jam a phone between your neck and ear, or use an accessory that dramatically reduces this angle; it will reduce strain in your neck and shoulders
  • Avoid eye strain by reducing screen glare and sitting your monitor at the appropriate distance from your face; also make sure your monitor is not sitting directly in front of a window or bright wall.  Speaking of eye strain, give your peepers a break every hour or so by looking at something much further away than your screen.
  • Your feet should always be planted firmly on the ground as you work. When you sit—particularly for long periods of time—with your feet dangling, it means you are putting extra pressure on the back of your legs.  Either get a different chair or use a footrest.

You may come to find more ways you can improve ergonomics in your work place. You might also find that these work outside of the office as well. And you should definitely implement them whenever and wherever you can!
